Art Deco Shanghai Engagement Session at the Oviatt in Los Angeles

Being in Southern California for almost a couple years now, we’ve had the opportunity to meet and work with a ton of new creatives, vendors, and couples…and this engagement of Robyn and Sven was no exception! Couple of cute little weirdos, these two. Be still my little weirdo heart.

So much to mention, let’s start with the conductor of the orchestra, Holly Gray of Anything But Gray Events.  Holly was one of the first planners we really wanted to work with when we first moved to the West Coast and dove into the Los Angeles wedding market.  We knew our bold, colorful, and candid style would compliment the vibrant feel Holly brings to all of her events.  If you don’t know what I mean, check out some of these shots and you’ll get it ;)

The Setting:  The Oviatt.
This.  Was.  Cool.  Apparently, this was the first Art Deco penthouse (and one of the first penthouses, period) in Los Angeles built in 1928.  With it’s custom furniture, etched-glass windows, and imported lighting by Lalique, the renowned Paris custom luxury glass maker, this gave the perfect backdrop for the 1920-1930’s Art Deco vibe we were going for.

The Beauty Makers:
We loved how Robyn’s veil by Julie Harris of Julie Harris Designs perfectly complimented Robyn’s Qipao-  a form-fitting, high-slit dress that was typically worn by Chinese socialites and high society from the 1920’s to 1960’s.  Robyn’s hair was glittered with breathtaking gold flower hair accessories from Debra Shirley of Millinery, Etc. and these juicy red flowers by florist extraordinaire Leta Verbena tie Robyn’s whole look together.  And of course, with Robyn being such a classy babe inside and out, Sven had his work cut out for him if he was going to balance out some of these photos.  Luckily, Friar Tux came through with a timeless two-button tux.  Don’t forget to peep Sven’s bowler hat that was passed down from his grandpa - it really is the perfect accent.  Pure class.

The Stars:

Robyn and Sven.  Sven and Robyn.  They’re simply awesome people.  Sweet, thoughtful, quirky, classy.  There’s so much more to say about these two but we just finished shooting their wedding this past weekend (which was INCREDIBLE) and we plan on writing a blog for that so we’ll highlight the couple more in that one.  Stay tuned!
